With great power, comes great responsibility.

- Spiderman

The most quotable superhero quote, and as clique it is, it is most necessary for us to figure out our superpower now. Most of us are running around like zombies, unable to figure out our “passions,” let me tell ya something. You have something unique, but we need to uncover some clear steps to unlock your superpowers. In this article, we are going to figure out what the heck your superpower is, and how you can use it in your everyday life.

Look for Foreshadowing Clues

You’ve always known what your superpower was ever since you were young. There were always these clues like in a chapter book that let you know what you’ve always wanted to do. You secretly would write screenplays after your homework or you were the one who look out in the sky and wonder how did one star have the ability to stay in one place.

Debbie Millman, branding professor and the host of Design Matters, talks about her journey finding her powers as an adult. She was fumbling at her childhood home and saw pictures that she drew when she was a kid. One of the drawing showed clear brands and descriptions of each company, she labeled all of pictures and the building at 32 she figured out her superpower was Imprinting.

4th Grader by day, Stock Trader by Night

In my fourth grade class we picked three stocks: Bank of America, Hershey, and Atari and followed them throughout the year. The stock would go up and down and it would change. This experience was my first touch in personal finance and teaching. I never thought I would be in business except for my infatuation with golfing at the age of 8.

Oddly all the companies that we followed in 96 are still in operation. One is a gambling website. One is eating all the banks like a game of Pac-Man buying out any bank that is failing. The other is getting a back rub from BoA with a boost in according to The Street “Bank of America reversed course on Hershey, bringing its price target on the chocolate company from under the stock's current level to well above.” Lastly one company is still making some form of money selling casino games and dabbling into blockchain.

If we pay attention to our ideas, they will eventually guide us to freedom. If and only if we listen and execute.

🦸🏻🦸🏽How do Find My Superpower?🦸🏾‍♀️🦸🏿‍♀️

That’s a good question. For starters, your superpower are an accumulation of skills.

Figure out what skills are you good at. Where do you thrive? Have your read any books lately? Where did the book take you?

If you are feeling trapped at your job or relationship. Wake up early or stay up late figuring out what you are good at and what makes you tick. Passion is a load of crap, figure out what would you be willing to spend your days doing?

Patience is a Virtue: Understand it takes Time

Once we figure out our superpower, we still have a huge onion to sauté. We may figure out what we are good at, but don’t know where to turn. It wasn’t until I chatted with Phuong Luong that I realized my superpower was project management. My conversation with Phuong Luong fundamentally changed my attitude with financial planning, because for a long time I felt that I had to fit into a mold, but after one conversation (and of course, 10 years of working), I figured out that project management was my superpower.

Personally, I am obsessed with agile and SCRUM. When I was teacher, I was focused on creating curriculum through projects. When I worked in the tech industry, I liked looking at the big picture and hashing out the details with a team. For years, I had no clue that creating projects was what I am good at. This is why I failed miserably with sales, teaching, etc. Because I was outgoing, people liked me, but because I never knew what my strengths were, I floundered to help a team out.

Like most of you I was stuck, and I blamed so many things to get away of my power. Now I know that it’s fuel. Figure out what makes you tick. Ask friends and family. If you need any help to clear your mind Check out the Resource Page.
